Hamas wants dead Palestinian civilians to justify its existence and get support from Iran and other sources for its corrupt leaders.

In a conventional war, such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an attacking country aims to gain territory and make its country bigger. A secondary aim is to kill enemy soldiers. A third aim is to destroy enemy infrastructure such as dams, power plants, and railroad bridges.

Killing enemy civilians or taking hostages isn’t an intention in modern wars for countries that signed the Geneva Convention.

Killing one’s own civilians isn’t a goal of any military. Except Hamas.

Hamas fights from urban areas, surrounded by civilians. Hamas avoids fighting in open country, away from civilians. October 7th was a rare exception.

Hamas fighters dress like civilians.

Hamas fighters use children as human shields. Israel has a rule that they can’t shoot Hamas fighters who are holding a child. When Hamas fighters leave their buildings, they grab the nearest child to hold as a shield. According to one story, an Israeli drone operator fired a missile at a Hamas leader. While the missile was in the air the Hamas leader picked up a child. The Israeli drone operator then diverted the missile into an empty lot to save the child.
